Implants
- A dental implant is a titanium screws that
is placed into the jawbone to support a replacement
tooth or bridge. Dental implants can be utilized
to replace individual teeth or multiple teeth.
They can also be used to stabilize loose full
dentures. Dental implants can support natural
looking replacement crowns that look an feel
like real teeth. Although nothing can completely
replace a natural tooth, dental implants are
as close as you can get to what nature gave
us.
Implants
are one of the most significant advances in
dentistry. These state of the art medical
devices can restore the function and appearance
of missing teeth giving the feel and look
of real teeth again.
Implant Bridge: Implants can
be used to replace mulitple teeth in the arch
and thus can eliminate the need for a partial
denture Dental Implants are placed into the
jaw where teeth have been lost by a surgical
procedure. A porcelain bridge is made and
fitted for the implant and produces a natural
appearance, which is almost impossible to
spot against natural teeth.
Implant Supported Denture: Because
of bone loss resulting fom tooth extractions
and periodontal disease or irregularties in
the dental arch anatomy regular dentures are
quite often uncomfortable for many people
to wear. Implant Supported Dentures provide
a firm fit of the denture to the jaw an thus
offer a viable alternative to conventional
dentures
How are dental implants placed?
Step
one: An incision is made to expose the bone
over the implant site. The site is prepared
to accept the implant which is then inserted
into the jawbone.
Step
two: In some cases, the gum tissue is closed
over the implant. In many cases, this step may
not be necessary eliminating the need for a
second procedure after the healing period is
complete.
Step
three: After the healing period (3-9 months),
the implants are exposed and connectors attached
to the implants, which are used to secure the
teeth to the implants.
Step
four: The replacement teeth are lab fabricated
and permanently attached to the implants. Normal
function and stability is restored.
Note:
In certain cases and procedures a temporary
prosthesis can be placed the
the
same day the implant placed.
